Hi! I’m Joy.

I’m equal parts corporate and creative.

When I was a kid, I dreamed of being a lawyer like the ones I saw on TV. I got pretty far down that path, even graduating from Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School with a JD/MBA. But then my life took an unexpected turn. A few weeks after graduation, I went to India to visit family and somehow wound up with a Bollywood acting contract. I moved to India to see what would happen next, bringing my six-figure student loans along for the ride.

What followed was the adventure of a lifetime. (More on that story here.) I acted a little and also started freelance consulting to stay afloat. Freelancing gave me flexibility to explore multiple passions at the same time. As a creative, I’ve acted, danced, narrated audiobooks, painted, and more. As a corporate professional, I’ve worked at some of the top firms in the world like Goldman Sachs, and been Head of Legal at a tech startup.

None of this would have been possible for me without the flexibility of freelancing. I share what I’ve learned in my decade of freelancing, along with the insights I gained from interviewing 50 freelancers, in my book The Freelance Mindset: Unleashing Your Side Hustles for Better Work, Play, and Life. Are you feeding your corporate and creative sides? Let’s talk. I’m excited to meet you!

And now for the fancy version of my bio + headshot!
